If you're throwing a kids' party, you'll have a lot of time to fill before the day's main event—the fireworks—begins. You'll need a lot of activities and games to keep everyone occupied and entertained.
You can plan a variety of patriotic activities.
There are numerous games with a patriotic theme that you can organize.
Balloon pass - This game involves passing a balloon down a line of people. Use red, white, and blue balloons and inform participants that they will be using their hands and legs to pass the balloon down the line. Give the first person a balloon and instruct them to place it between their legs before passing it to the next person in line with their legs only. That person will take the balloon and place it over their head to pass it on to the next person. That third person will pass the balloon between their legs. The game continues until the balloon has passed all the way down the line. If you have a small group, require that the balloon be passed down the line and back before declaring a winner.
Chalk it up - Select a panel of judges (the oldest members of the family are obvious choices) to serve as official judges for a chalk contest. Divide your guests into two teams (or more, depending on the size of the party) and distribute one or two containers of sidewalk chalk to each. Tell them to make a sidewalk picture of something patriotic, and that the flag must be included. Give them a time limit (this time limit may vary depending on your group) and then have the judges declare a winner after carefully examining all of the artwork. You could give out art-related prizes to the winners.
Parade - Looking for a fun 4th of July activity that celebrates the holiday like no other?! Get everyone to join in the 4th of July parade and decorate their bike, scooter, or other form of transportation! Not only could you have a competition for the 'best bike' once they arrive, but also set up a fun decorating station with streamers, banners, flags and ribbon galore! It's a fantastic way to get everyone in the celebratory mood and something that each person can take part in. Don't forget to have the decorations on hand and make sure you set aside some time to create the perfect red, white and blue ensemble!
Guessing Games - Gather your family and friends, and add some excitement to your next event with this classic game! Fill a large jar with those delicious red and white striped peppermint candies, and tie it all together with some blue and red ribbon, and you've got yourself one fun game. Have everyone take a guess as to how many candies are in the jar. Who knows, maybe you'll even be the lucky one to correctly guess the amount, because the winner will take home the jar as their prize. Don't forget to count as you put the candies in! Good luck!
Fireworks - If you're having fireworks at your house, you may have a large box of various fireworks. Everyone has personal favorites, and people may have specific ideas about what they want to see and hear. You can play a game to see who gets to choose the next firework to go off. You could ask trivia questions (for example, why are there 13 stars on the flag?). You could also have a dance-off. While music plays in the background, anyone who wants to choose the next firework to go off must perform the craziest, silliest dance they can think of. Someone designated as a judge will decide who won the dance-off, and that person will get to choose the next fireworks item. Unless there are more fireworks than people, each person can only choose once.
